1 min readFeb 19, 2024
Vitamin C deficiency, also known as scurvy, isn’t as common as it once was due to readily available fruits and vegetables in many parts of the world. However, it’s still important to be aware of the symptoms, especially if you have concerns about your diet or risk factors.
Early symptoms (develop after weeks to months of deficiency):
- Fatigue and weakness: Feeling tired and lacking energy is a common early sign.
- Irritability and mood changes: You might experience increased irritability or even depression.
- Muscle and joint pain: Aches and pains in your muscles and joints can occur.
- Dry and rough skin: Skin may become dry, rough, and bumpy.
- Easy bruising and bleeding: Bruising and bleeding more easily than usual can be a telltale sign.
- Loss of appetite and weight loss: You might lose your appetite and experience unintended weight loss.
If you have any of these problems, consult your doctor as soon as possible and add supplements to your diet to get rid of the disease.
